On Tuesday morning, the day after my parents got home, we met at the funeral home to discuss more arrangements. Larry met us there and it was a sweet reunion between brother and sister.
We went inside and Larry had all of the siblings go into the room with Wendy (I think all of us were there except Nate), so that we were all there when my parents came in. I don't know if I will ever witness a more heartbreaking scene in my entire life. I hope I don't. As hard as this has been for me, that is not my baby girl laying on the table. I can't begin to comprehend the sorrow. So many tears were shed. My sweet mom just laid on her chest, wept and kissed her forehead. My dad's entire frame shook and he had huge tears streaming down his face. It is a scene that will be burned in my memory forever. My parents were also able to meet Maylee, who has the cutest baby legs in the world. They were like a little doll.
Amidst the many tears, there were also some smiles and laughs. My mom held Maylee the entire time we were making arrangements and she kept looking up and saying, "She is SUCH a good baby!" Also, when anyone would ask them if they were going back to Africa, my dad would give the diplomatic answer, for example, "Well, we'll have to think about it and pray about it and we'll know what the Lord will want us to do." The whole time he would be saying this, my mom would be shaking her head and mouthing "no". I don't know if he saw her or not. :)
After the meeting we headed down to my parents house, where so many were waiting to see them. Another sweet reunion between sisters. Something that stands out in my mind is when my mom saw Sandy, she said, "My sister!"
Sean brought the kids down and they were happy to see grandma and grandpa, well, most of them were, Hayes kept his distance at first.
It was a day filled with sorrow but also many, many sweet moments. I know Wendy loved it.
