On Sunday morning we got up and found the coolest cemetery right outside our window in Paris.
I don't know if you can tell from this picture, but Sean and I noticed that they put these square cages on the trees to make them grow flat. They use them on trees in the islands in the middle of the roads and on paths so that the branches are out of the way. Just one more of the many things I would love to see in the spring or summer. I guess I'll have to go back. We decided to check out the Chateau De Versailles this day. I had heard that it was unbelievable but I wasn't prepared for the enormity or frivolity of it all. No wonder there was a revolution! In one of the dining rooms, it showed where royalty would eat and where the commoners could come to watch them eat. That's pretty sad. The pictures can't even begin to show how enormous it was. It was all pretty unreal.
The chapel
The Hall of Mirrors
I took this picture of the corner of the ceiling in a random room just to show all of the ornate carvings. Every single room was like this. It really is unreal.
Napolean's throne.
I just couldn't get enough of the decorations. Look at the wall color. I love it!
This was the only real picture I got of the gardens. You can't tell by this picture, but they are ENORMOUS. I wished I would have got more. I couldn't understand why they rented out golf carts until I saw the gardens and until I took what I thought would be a quick "stroll" to Marie Antionette's estate. It was more like a day hike. It reminded Sean and I a lot of the National Mall in Washington D.C. They cover 800 acres of land. Again, just unreal. Here's a picture I found online:
I think what I loved most of all is Marie Antionette's estate. While it was still so pretty and over the top, it was also a little more cozy without all the pomp. Here's a few pictures:
Yep, I think I could move right in!
