Halloween '09

...was just a little different than I thought it would be. The night of Cy's Pinewood Derby, Ava was especially clingy. I looked at her one time and thought her eyes didn't look quite right. That night, she was asleep in my bed (Sean was out of town, he always misses the fun stuff), and she rolled over and her little cheeks were bright red. I felt her and she was burning up, took her temp and she had a fever. The next morning she said her throat hurt and she had a cough and she still had her fever. I got on line to look at the symptoms of swine flu and she had every symptom. It said that if you live in an area where there is swine flu, and you have all the symptoms, just assume you have it and stay home and treat it at home. I borrowed a portable DVD player from our neighbors and pretty much locked her in her room. I was so careful to keep her away from everyone but on the Friday before Halloween, when the kids wore their costumes to school, I got a call from Cy at about noon saying he didn't feel so great. I went to the school to pick him up and he had a fever too. I remembered him saying that his legs really hurt at swimming that morning. We thought it was just growing pains but, looking back, it makes a lot of sense. So I kept him in his room downstairs and wouldn't let him come up. I was also able to get him on Tamiflu right away because he has asthma. They wouldn't give it to me for Ava because she was too old and didn't have an underlying health problem. Poor Cy... we were planning on having his birthday party with Sayer on Halloween and we had to cancel it. We were also planning on blessing Hayes on Nov. 1st and that had to be pushed back a week as well. Ava felt a lot better on Halloween but I still wouldn't let her go trick-or-treating. I'm just glad that they were able to go to the Dunkley Halloween party because that is really the only Halloween experience Cy and Ava got. I never got a picture of all four of my kids together in their Halloween costumes. Am I surprised? No. Just adding to the long "bad mom" list. We still had Sayer's party... outside! She had a blast and loved going trick-or-treating with all her friends.

Ava still had to get her costume on. It didn't look quite as cute with her bed hair :)
My cutest little football!

darn swine flu....glad Sayer still got her party. Hayes is just bigger every time I see him. What a cutie...makes me think I need one of those again. We'll have to scrapbook again after the holidays are over!
