We decided this year that we wanted to see more of Utah. There are so many cool things in our own backyard that we have never seen before. For fall break, we took a little road trip and it was so much fun. Cy was asking everywhere that we would be going and after we told him, he said, "So is this a road trip?" Our first stop was the Golden Spike at Promontory Point. It's where the railroads from the east and the west met.

Just a few miles away was Thiokol, or ATK, I couldn't decide which name it was, or if it was both. They build rockets here and they have a display that you can look at. (Hayes and I stayed in the car, it was a little cold)

The next stop on our trip was lunch at the Peach City Ice Cream Company in Brigham City. It was so much fun and the food was so good. Sean loves peaches and was in heaven with his peach shake.

Next was the dinosaur museum in Ogden. I knew there was a wooly mammoth but did you know there was a wooly rhino? I didn't. The museum was so great. It was at the mouth of Ogden Canyon and all the leaves were changing and we had the place practically to ourselves.

Sean hanging with his new friend. I can't say anything bad about the place, but Ava sure can. She did not appreciate the Halloween decorations! :)

That night we stayed in Layton and saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the Layton Hills Mall. I loved it... especially the monkey named Steve. The next morning we ate at Denny's and then headed out to Antelope Island.

When we got there the lake was so beautiful. It was so smooth it was just like a mirror. So pretty!

Cy found a few friends. A lizard and a snake. The girls didn't mind the lizard but did not like the snake.

We were pretty close to some buffalo. So close to see one taking care of business. Of all the cool things we saw on our trip, the kids are still talking about that one. After Antelope Island, we headed east to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Really, really cool but not what I expected. There was no fanfare at all. You just drove on this little road that dead-ended in a circle and there was one little sign. But still really cool. It's amazingly flat and white for as far as you can see. We were there as the sun was setting and it was so pretty reflecting off the salt.

The kids collected salt in jars and played and ran. We found a Pizza Hut in Wendover and ate dinner there. Poor Pizza Hut employees! We were in this back room that had been recently remodeled and made the whole place pretty salty, not to mention the car. After dinner, we headed home. It was a short, sweet trip but so much fun and I learned a lot about Utah history. We'll see where our next Utah adventure takes us!
